Program Details

The class will incorporate beginner to intermediate techniques to help develop rhythm, coordination, and musicality in a stress-free environment. Students will also be exposed to multiple styles of hip hop dance, in addition to learning how to pick up choreography. This class does not require any prior dancing experience and will allow students to explore their own creativity while relieving stress through dance! Over six-weeks, you’ll work towards finding and improving your personal dance style.

About the instructor:Jasmine Shaw was born and raised in Richmond, VA and began dancing upon her entrance in high school. She attended Henrico High School and was a participant in their specialty center, Center for the Arts, where she studied dance under the direction of Victoria Fink. During her time in the program her love for dance heightened and she decided to further her study in college at James Madison University (JMU). While at JMU she performed in various works by students, faculty, and guest artists such as Xan Burley and Alex Springer and was also a member of the Contemporary Dance Ensemble. While in college she pursued various opportunities for dance such as the American Dance Festival (ADF) and a summer study abroad program in London. During her time at JMU she discovered a passion for choreography. She choreographed many pieces that were featured in numerous concerts and student works. Upon graduation from James Madison University in 2015, she returned home to Richmond. She currently coaches at Henrico High School while still actively choreographing and dancing in the community. She is also an active member with Studio 4 Dance Agency based here in RVA. Jasmine aspires to own a performance company to fulfill her love for choreography, the arts, and her creative mindset.
